Are you going to be constructing a 6x6 from a 4x4? I reckon that the way it was done on Army international F1 6x6 was a better set up if you where going to make a 6x6. The drive just goes from front rear diff to back rear diff with 6 rod suspension. This setup gives incredible rear wheel travel.
    Just an idea.

Ahh! Thanks for the idea, Dennis. I'm pretty sure I took some pix underneath a 6x6 at Modern Motors in Dungog a couple of years ago. I'll look for them.

Thanks Landy Andy Let me know when you win lotto or better still give me the numbers. I'm going through the drive train on the 6x6 so any info I'll try to help. I'm still learning at the moment but the rear diffs are Salisbury and the front standard rover diff out of a coil sprung. 4.7:1 Rears are wider to allow for the overlapping leaf springs but if you go coil rear end they don't have to be. The drive arrangement for the extra rear diff is the same vacuum actuator as that which drives the front diff. This is the civvy one but the only difference is the front diff being narrower than the rear.

That would be good, the only details i'm after or better yet pics, is the rear drive arrangement, The tailshaft and angle of the pinion on the rearmost diff

The army ones I've looked at are different to the rover diff as on the defender front but mine is identical to the defender and the military are wider as we know. the other 6by here in Kal has a wide diff but the owner did that himself.

civvie 6x6 has a standard diff (may have a 4-pin centre).

Military versions have a super heavy duty cast axle casing that is about 12" wider, along with a 4-pin centre and a special reverse-cut ring and pinion (pretty sure it is still 4.7:1 though - unless they have changed it from 47 crownwheel teeth and 10 pinion teeth to 33 crownwheel and 7 pinion???).

    Hello wovenrovings

This sounds like a great idea to extent the tray and make a good size campervan.
The F1 had a power divider from the front rear diff to get the power to the rear diff. Where would you get one of these to make a 6x6 Rover?
Do you think there would be much problem from the transport people to get it registered?
    Anthony
