Two collets per valve![]()
I am currenlty in the US and saw a lead to unleaded conversion for the 2.25 petrol engines.
Bit surprised how easy it looks and just wanted to get your thoughts on that.
According to them all what is required (and offered in their kit) is to
1) change inlet and exhaust valves to hardened valves
2) change valve collets and cups
Has anybody done a conversion before? Can you confirm that this is all I would need to replace.
Anybody knows the cost in Australia? The cost of the kit is about AU$ 250 and has 4x inlet valves, 4x exhaust valves, 8x cups, 16x collets (not sure why 16).
Any thoughts? Warnings?
Thanks, Dante

While you have the head off you should probably get it machined too.
Give the head shop the valves and collets and they will fit them and bed them in properly, that way you are sure to get no leaks. I have bedded in a couples of valves in the past by hand and it was not fun

G'day All, Don't spend your money over there buying bits, it can be done quite easily by any competent engine reconditioner, head specailists here in Australia, everything is available here as well, I'm sure Numpty has just had the head done for his Series 2A 4cyl 'Castrol' but you please yourself cheers Dennis
And in any case, unless you are doing a lot of high power full throttle driving, such as freeways, they seem to run perfectly well on unleaded without modification. I had the head off mine a while back after several years of running on unleaded - no signs of valve seat recession.
And they were sold for a number of years in Canada without modification and with only unleaded available.

For starters, you DON'T have to do anything!........many people have this discovered that V.S.R [Valve Seat Recession] doesn't actually happen!......
You'll have to ggogle it - but basically putting lead INTO paetrol was a big con job to start off with.......and then when ALL the minus points of lead were finally discovered and it was no longer added....so enterprising scoundrells decided that money could be made from the gullible by selling "Lead Replacements"......that's right replacement for something that was found to be un-needed and in fact detrimental........
]BTW......it's not just the valves that should be hardedned but the VALVE SEATS !!!!
But please - do some rereaerch on why you DON'T need to do anything!
