Find a Toyota dealer with a good County or Defender in their stock and trade it to them. Then chuckle and chortle all the way home.

Well I think you are all very, very, very mean.

My hippo has been the most reliable landrover I have ever had.

    So there

Youse people should stop picking on us - am beginning to feel like a Yota driver on a landy chat forum - or a landy owner on a Yota forum.

Well, my wife has also just informed me that the cruise control also sometimes won't work!
I realise there are some unlucky ones around (monday cars) but this is a bit ridiculous...there's enough recall stickers inside the drivers door to plaster a wall with!
So, where's the best place in the ballarat or melbourne area to get this looked at so we can fix it and sell the little son of satan!
Also, obviously no-one on here will be interested, but once it is fixed....what would be the going price for a 2001 3 door auto soft top (with the hard top aswell) V6 with 32000kms.....IF it can be fixed!
    Thanks guys.

Yeah, don't get me wrong I've got nothing against land rovers (her parents have a rangie and it's great!), but all I've heard about these little turds is horror stories! I had a mate who worked for a land rover dealer (before I met my lovely wife) and he used to refer to them as "**** of the earth"!

If the brake light switch is playing up (as I mentioned before) this will also affect the cruise control. They're a 2 stage switch so even though the brake light side of the switch may be fine, the other side might not be.

Thanks for the help guys, it's booked in to an auto-electrician on wednesday, am I better off taking it a land rover dealer or taking in your list of suggestions to the auto-elec.
Can anyone recommend somewhere in the ballarat bendigo region?

if its still under warranty......see if you can get them to replace the alternator......

you will be surprised what problems a dodgy one can cause.....yet it will pass any test thrown at it......

As already posted, if your cruise is dead I can almost 100% guarantee your problem lies with the brake switch for the ABS/TC/HDC faults. I had that come up once, it was a faulty ABS sensor (which was logged in the fault codes so easy to diagnose).

The missing gear indication (does it sometimes show F-4) is a known issue, do some searching on the net, I think it is as simple as the selector not being in a proper detent. This may also be the cause of it not starting for it won't start unless it is in Park if I can remember correctly.

An 01 softtop may fetch 12-14k? Not sure though, as most people know to stay away from the early autos, and the soft top has a pretty limited market.

Thanks DionM, unfortunately we've had some really bad luck with previous land rover dealer which was Wodonga Prestige (allthough they are no longer the dealer for that area). We have moved now and are living near Ballarat so I need to know where to take it. it looks like it will ahve to be Melbourne but I think the wife said she's even taken it there one (ULR I think) and they were no help, fixed a few things but never rang back about others. Are they still going to be my best bet? Also, should they know all this info or should I be taking a copy of this for them to read.
Once again a big thanks to everyone for their help, I was very close to torching the damn thing!
