    Wastegate Modulatar

Hi guys after searching and testing I think this is my problem Re: my post the other day TD5 power loss. Discovered it looses power over 2500 where I first thought it was only on hills ( made a bit of a liar out of myself ).

What is this thing how much and is it a big job?

Could be. My wastegate was sticking causing loss of power occasionaly and rough driving but after some lubrication it was working as it should again and things smoothed out and did what they should. Mine is on a TD5 D2

I've twice had problems with the wastegate modulator on my TD5 D2. The first time was due to a split hose and the engine would surge as the turbo boost varied rapidly due to the split. The dealer was unable to diagnose with testbook and it took a sharp eyed mechanic to notice the split hose.

The second time the symptoms were slightly different as the engine behaved normally on light throttle but again the surging was evident at any greater throttle setting. Because of the similarity to the first time diagnosis was easy. The problem was finding a spare as the dealer didn't have one and the best he could offer was "sometime next week from Eastern states" (I'm in WA). I rand around some of the independent LR people in Perth and managed to find on which took 5 minutes to replace.

What did you use to lubricate it?

Unhappy Is this what's happening to mine?

I think I've just encountered this problem with my 'fender. In 5th, it REALLY struggles to go above 120, the engine power almost disappears - then the engine starts surging

It's got 1.2 LT230 in it, so I think it's about 2400rpm when it happens - although, when at that rpm in gears 1-3, it's fine...?

Would my diagnosis be roughly accurate?

To repeat Frenchies request, How do you go about cleaning it? Using just CRC or the likes?

    Cheers

Nope, it's a Fender, that's just sheer aerodynamics or lack there of. Sorry, that wasn't called for

Had the same thing happen to us last year half way through our central Oz trip. We'd been down the Finke road and into Chambers Pillar. Came out, got onto the highway back to Alice and no power - foot flat to the floor and couldn't get the thing over about 80km/h - not much fun with a road train in the rear view mirror.

To my eternal gratitude the boys at Suttons managed to diagnose it and even had one in stock!

I've had one go as well, it seems it was sticking and allowing both over boost and underboost situations. On acceleration the vehicle would surge as the ECU detected the overboost and corrected by cutting off fuel. It also had no power under load and you could hear the wastegate venting if you listened carefully. Replacing the wastegate modulator fixed it but the boost sensor was also malfunctioning possibly as a result of excessive boost.
    Regards,
    Tote
