    Coil spacer installation

i've got some polyurethane coil spacers that i want to put on my Disco, just to lift it up a bit, no instructions have arrved with them so i'm wondering:

A: they DO go on the bottom right??

B: do you re-use the bottom bracket that hold the coils on, and simply use longer bolts to re attach everything?

cheers if any help can be given...

I believe they go on the top of the spring......or at least they do on D2s. You may loose the top rubber coated ring when fitting as the spacer will take its place but other than that you shouldn't need to remove any bolts.....apart from perhaps the front shock tower just to get it in and then re-attach once fitted. They are fiddly buggers and you will probably need some spring compressors to do the job. Rears fairly easy on a D2 but fronts a bit more involved due to shock being mounted inside the spring and the lack of room to move in the shock tower.

Hope this helps but let me know if you need any more info.

that's the best info i have at the mo, i'll give it a shot.

thing is....what if at full travel the spring dislocates and pops out, what's keepin gthe spacer in there?, or should i wire up the spacer to be safe?

they go on top or mine did...

i fitted 30mm with a 22mm finish height and never experienced springs binding and they quietened the vehicle down a little...

If your springs come away from the seat at full travel then yes, I would look at securing the spacer........although without seeing it, I would have some concern about how well it reseats/locates when compressing again. My springs stay located at full travel so the spacer is nicely locked in place. I suppose you could always use a cone typre set up to make sure it locates properly?

    How big are the spacers?

They go between the chasis and the coil, I had some and recommend strongly against it.

I got mine from the US (from a good source) and after some off roading one side got damaged. I assume it got dislodged (too much flex ;-) ).

I strongly recommend to get larger springs.

    Have a look at this:

That looks like they had a rubber tye skirt round the actual load bearing spacer part am I right? In which case, the damage would not have too much of an adverse effect on their performance.......unless I am missing something or you are refering to some other part?

I don't know too much about these other that what I have fitted to mine so interested also to see how some differ in design and performance.

they are 30mm, they are a solid round block of poly with a smaller diameter 'insert' that sits inside the spring, can't ever see the spring comming out eaither but i just want to be sure...

Sounds like they are the same design etc as mine so yes, unless you think your spring is going to dislocate, you should be fine.....easy to test though by cross axleing your car and seeing how much each side goes down and if the spring come away from it's seat. Do a search in spacers also as there was some recent discussion about them with regards to spring bind etc. You may need to look at moving bump stops depending on your set up and driving style.

Good luck and let us know how you go, Mick
