    Engine mounts???

I have a weird occurence with the Fender, when I pull up to a stop after driving, vehicle comes to complete halt and then there is this shudder you can feel from the drivers seat, like a dog is shaking itself under the bonnet. It then stops and all ok, goes for maybe a second or two, doesnt happen all the time, would it be engine mounts are loose??? Cant be suspension as it was just done and it did it before as well.No strange noises just this "rocking sort of effect".Hard to explain.

You might want to take a look to see if the parking brake linings are binding in the drum. They can create all kinds of wierd noises........

Get under there with a crow bar or similar and lever all 4 mounts in turn.

    Check for bolt movement ect.

They are cheap so I'd almost recommend replacing a couple and carrying the old ones as spares (I do)

Almost certainly the handbrake is dragging - either adjusted up too tight, not coming off due to rusted up cable or expander, full of mud, or (probably most likely!) its got oil in it due to a leaking seal. To check if this is the problem, chock three wheels, jack up one rear wheel, diff lock unlocked, gearbox in neutral, handbrake off. Crawl underneath, and you should be able to easily turn the handbrake drum just with the friction of your hand (the jacked up rear wheel will turn as you do). There should be no signs of friction, just the load of getting the rear wheel moving.

but it does it with the HB off or on, and at a dead stop well after any forward momentum has ceased.

Thats what I meant John...binding, dragging...same same. At the end of the day it could mean that the parking brake is sticking.

Crump.....you're saying it does it with the hand brake on or off.......you can only assume the hand brake is engaged or disengaged by the position of the handbrake lever. Whats happening down below could be different mate.

Best way to check is to remove the tranny brake drum and have a look. get some one to repeatedly work on the parking brake as you watch to see whats happening. Chances are its the little expansion cams are stuck in the guide.
No special tools are needed to remove the assembly, clean it all up and put it back together again. I use a smear of copperslip on those cams and surrounding movable components but they still bind up after a while with brake shoe dust etc.

If that doesn't fix the problem.

Start another thread.....could be a wind-up in the central diff? Ideas anyone?

he is feeling the vibration after he is stopped......cant be the handbrake or suspension....

the Td5 seems to run different fuel maps...?at idle.......
when i pull up with lurch he will run rough for a second or so.....then you feel it settle to a nice purr......
its just like it has switched over to idle mode......you can feel this just by giving the engine a rev......

as soon as the revs drop to idle it will run rough for a second.....then switch to idle mode......

it is possible that this is what crump is noticing.....only due to panic after doing a bit of work himself.......
it is paranoia that he may have stuffed something up me thinks......
