'99 fender, BD "half-chipped", does exactly the same - now i just live with it.
 
strange after filling up that it would go so much better, but i think it might be something with the cooler diesel getting into the engine?? do'nt know, but mine has all the symptoms your's have and i do'nt really have any answers 

 
			
		 
	 
 Mine has the fuel temp logic disabled in the ecu - not my doing. The WSM states that the temp defaults to 60 deg C if the sensor fails so I suppose it uses the same temp when the sender is disabled.
 
Has anyone who has access to Testbook, Rovercom etc seen an ecu fuel temp reading of other than 60 deg C, or seen the fuel temp disabled?  Maybe this is market specific, a feature that's been dropped or maybe only on some vehicles.
