    Inertia switch on 96 Discovery

I'm still trying to source the cause of my hazard lights coming on over corrugated tracks, I posted this a few months ago, and still can't find the cause.
But I read this about a 98 Disco
"In the event of an accident, an inertia switch stops fuel flow, unlocks all the doors and turns on the hazard lights. "
So I wonder if the 96 Disco also does the above.
Since I run on LPG, then I wouldn't notice any fuel being cut off as it would apply to the petrol pump , the doors are always unlocked when I drive any way.
But If it was faulty intermitantly then may be my hazards would activate.
When I turn the engine off and wait a minute or 2 then restart, they are off again.
Trouble is I can replicate the problem at will

As far as I know ALL Disco's have the Inertia Safety Switch......it's a safety device- in case of a collision/rollover/etc.

It sounds as if yours IS coming on by itself, but you don't notice it coz the LPG system has been wired up to bypass it.......NOT really a very wise move from a safety point of view!!!

BTW - I've seen some REALLY DODGY wiring andd electrical installations on at least 2 RRC with LPG (done by 2 totally different people)....makes you shudder!.....and one of these RRC's gets a yearly "Pink Slip" from a dodgy inspector who "tests" the brakes by dropping the machine onto a pillow - going nowhere near the car-to print out a good result!!!!!......the truck is a rolling safety nightmare!!!....I picked out the "loose" steering was the Pitman arm nut backed-off about 2 full turns coz it had a broken off lock washer [French Lock]......I took it off cleaned it up,applied cleaning solvent/primer and applied LocTite permanent !!!!!

Maybe its not a fault, but a design feature........ to warn all toyo drivers a land rover is approaching and to get out of the way in case they skid on our oil leaks?

seriously though if all 3 of us have it then it must be a common fault

not a fault, it generally means youve shaken the car too hard RTM and you will find a spot that says harsh or sudden impacts when off roading may trip the inertial switch of the vehicle the manual reset is located here (tells you where) to reset it and obtain normal operations press this bit.

If you hit a big enough roo it will go off and as i found out today...

If you go head to head with a big wedge tailed eagle that thinks that your car is going to eat its road kill and it slams into the bulkhead vent flaps, the hazard lights come on.

Scared the bejeezus out of me, I thought eagles were smarter than that.

I have had this happen on severe corregation before in a V8 disco. After not being able to work out what was going on, I took out the relevant fuse and drove home. When I put the fuse back in the problem had gone and has not happened again for about two years. The land rover dealer could not explain what had happened but nothing new there.

Yep happens to my 94 Rangie when I hit rough corrugations. The hazard lights flash but the car happily keeps going.

Documented fix - turning the ignition off and on again twice will reset it.

It is a fault in the security system. There is a fix, which involves pulling the security ECU out and apart, then cutting one of the "bridges" in the printed circuit board. If you are all really nice I will try to find the relevant bulletin.

Has happened to me as well, but on a smooth highway! In the end I pulled over and locked and unlocked the car and all was well.

Not happy Jan, when it happened to me on the week end I was driving about 60 kph and they came on. I pulled over to fix it and a Toyo ute pulled up to see if I needed assistance. don't want to give them ammo to talk about Landies
