Wheel and tyre sizes & choice?

Can someone tell me what size wheel and tyres my 94 Defender 110 should have as standard fitment please? It has 31x10.5x15's on white steel rims, which I'm guessing isn't right based on the fact the speedo reads 7-8k out at 100k, and because the manual mentions 16" rims, as did the UK spec ones (If I've remembered correctly).

Also, what tyre size can you go to without bodywork mods, and what is recommended for a car doing road and offroad duties, hopefully in near equal amounts once I've joined a club? It's not my daily transport, but transport to my other hobbies is going to see 600k round trips monthly or so, so I don't want heaps of road noise or lowered gearing.

I'd also love the later Defender alloys for it, but they seem rare as hell over here, so is there a similar looking aftermarket alloy?

Oh, and dare I ask for tyre recommendations for the above without causing chaos?

    Thanks!

The LR steel rims are 5.5 x 16.
    The LR alloys are 7 x 16.

7.50R16 or 235/85R16 are both an excellent choice for tyre size.

I used to run 235/85R16 Goodyear Wranglers A/T (County 110), they were a pretty good all round tyre with good ground clearance and quiet on the road.
Personally I wouldn't run anything but that tyre size on a 110.

Funny enough my current Land Rover (Disco) had brand new Goodyear Wranglers A/T tyres when I got it. Good, but as they are 205R16 they just lack some ground clearance compared to the 235/85R16.

Of course 235/85R16 tyres offer no form of bling or fashion statement, won't make your 4WDrive look tough, won't add to your ego.... but they are a good practical tyre size well suited to a 110

    Best regards

Occasionally good deals are to be had on Mag wheels, sometimes with tyres, on ebay. Mags can easily be freighted on a small pallet, or even posted indevidually, just wrapped in bubble wrap (as long as they're under 20kg each).

Thanks. There was a set of Defender alloys on for $800, but they were pick-up only and were in Melbourne. Shame, as they were exactly what I was after, and what prompted this post.

Have now found a very cheap set on ebay.co.uk, so am tempted to grab them, ship them to the mother-in-law's and arrange shipping out here with a load of other bits myself on my next trip over.

Personally I would go for 255/85R16. These are a 33" and will only need the flares trimming if you run large offset rims, standard 130 rims or slightly offset disco rims will be fine. If you are a fan of wider tyres, you could look at 285/75R16, these are a lot more common than the 255's, and as such there are a lot more tread patterns available.

255/85R16 is the way to go, just not a lot of choice of tyres in that size, and they don't fit on the narrow steel rims, although they do fit on the wider alloy rims.
