Not an easy job from what I understand.. It requires you remove the heater and cooler unit. Which would removing the whole of the dash and facia unit

Are you referring to the max A/C microswitches? Or the Thermostat switch? The Max A/C feature isn't used on a TDI, and the thermostat is buried in the core within the heater/cooler unit. (Apparantly next to the A/C pipes.)
