Bilstien shocks and Old man Emu springs $1275 fitment $269

    Castor Kit $141 fitment $155

Oil in the Harness, suspension knock, transmission clunk, engine oil leaks, exhaust manifold leaks, centrifugal oil filter stripped bolts, a/c leaks, door leaks, wouldn't trade it for the world

If it helps, I was quoted $144 supplied each for rear OME shocks for my D2 which is about the going rate i think. I also paid $195 per shock ($780 in total) for Bilstein shocks for my D2 last year. I also had some 40mm raised King springs fitted at the same time as the Bilsteins and from memory the whole job including 4 x Bilstien shocks and 4 x King springs fitted came to about $1280 inc GST fitted - all this is on the Gold Coast.

Fitting seems quite high and with some basic tools, it can be done by yourself and mate in a couple of hours really.

If you are replacing existing defender suspension or not going above 2-3" then I would suggest the castor kit it totally unecessary and sounds like someone is trying to have a lend of you. I may be wrong but someone with a defender may say otherwise. Also not sure a wheel alignment is necessary after fitting unless you already have some issues.

    Good luck, Mick

P.S. Can pass on the details of the crowd I buy my susnpension gear though when I get back into the office if you like for a comparrison quote.

Don't know about current prices, but there are a variety of package deals advertised in the 4wd mags, 4wd monthly has some good ones, kits etc. I don't have a current one, but the old one i have has prices a lot less than you quote.

Those are reasonable retail prices. I wouldnt say you'd be getting ripped but you can do a bit better if you shop around. If you're in the Alice, thats probably as good as you're going to get.

HOWEVER, I'd do some research into rates and spring/shock lengths taking into account your loading and usage - its easy to end up with a rougher riding vehicle with less suspension travel, even you do get a lift.......

Some of the OME coils are very firm. I also found their shocks to be on the stiff side as well but my personal preference is for a soft ride, even if it comes at the expense of body roll. You can use a Nissan GQ rear coil in the rear of a 110 - may give you more rate and length options...

Fitting coil springs and shocks is quite easy to DIY with a couple of axle stands and a jack. The only thing you can really stuff up is to let the car fall on you!

I'd see how the steering feels after the lift and then decide whether or not to correct the castor.

OME shocks from ARB retail for $144ea. The best quote I got was $120ea, but out of stock (for my wifes 1988 Rangie, last week). I walked into ARB with the old shock, wearing overalls and they supplied 2 shocks at $129ea. Fitting the first took 40min, the 2nd took 15min. Quite an easy DIY job.

Incidently I was quoted about $240ea for Bilsteins and a bit more for KONI.

In my experience on a heavily laden Defender, the Bilsteins got very hot on a cool rainy day of Desert driving (they have narrower tubes). Polyairs solved that issue for a bigger desert trip.

The front OME on my wifes Rangie were replaced at 431,000km. I've had the car since 200,000 and they were on it when we bought it. I've got OME on the Defender too and would recommend them.

Its only money, better to just get it done and take it for a ride..but me, I love to fit things myself, except the castor kit which will require a big M/F press

I'm also up here in Alice and was quoted the identical prices (I'm guessing you went to Top Gear 4WD)
I had OME's fitted to my Toyota Hilux (rolled last week!) and when I priced them up Top Gear came up trumps for the following reasons:

    1. As a single supplier and fitter theres no one to pass the buck to should something go wrong
    2. They adjusted the Hillux rear a few times after fitting to get the ride just right for me .......at no extra cost
    3. They help diagnose a worn control arm and lower ball joints during the fit up saving me a bit of time down the track
    4. They're not going anywhere and they're local so any follow up queries will be addressed by Ian or his blokes without a problem

Incidentally, the prices quoted for a Discovery kit are not that far off what I paid for the Hilux kit. So I will be going ahead with them in the near future.

    Hope this helps
