    gearbox oils

    what oil shoyuld i be putting in my LT85 gearbox? i think that the book says engine oil at 20/50 but that was written over 20 years ago!! i'm sure i read something about using castrol syntrax 75/90. am i correct? the current box whines all day long in any gear and is becoming a pain in the rear. any suggestions? thanks.

    Jasper. I used to use syntrax or trans (can't remember which - which ever was for gearboxes) in the gearbox/lt230. I found it pretty good.

    I'm sure I can recall others on the forum saying the same. The LT85 is not a bad box. The transfer would jump out occasionally.

    I went to Castrol Syntrans in my LT85 and am most pleasantly surprised with the lesser noise and the smooth shifting. worth every cent. Using Castrol VMX 80 in the transfer.

    engine oil is whats reccomended and its what the adf runs ATM but they seem to switch from ATF to eng oil on a cycle.

    AT4 or 5 imho would probabley be best.
