Rocker cover gasket would be my guess, but with out seeing it it's hard to know for sure.
Change it anyway as they do leak after a while.
Hi all,
I have a defender 130 with a 300tdi motor wich has given me good service, lately I have noticed a small oil weep on the passenger side of the motor at the front I cleaned it of and have done about 500 ks in short stints checking now and again to see if it would start to leak and where it was coming from but no more leak!last week travelled to sydney twice from wollongong and then parked it for a week in the driveway lifted the bonnet today and there it was again I must say its a weep and not running out or dripping the engine is performing well and has about 190000ks on it.Does anyone know where it mat be coming from I"m thinking one of two things 1.manifold gasket as that seems to be where its starting allthough hard to tell 2.head gasket?? have not heared or seen anything to indicate it could be a head gasket.Any help or advice would be much appreciated.thanks.Pidge

more than likely manifold gasket. A small % of oil is carried back through the inlet tract with the blow by gasses and it can migrate past the gasket face at the head. They all seem to do it, to greater and lesser degrees.
thanks fellas but i"m pretty sure its not a rocker cover gasket!I degreased all around the rocker cover when I first cleaned the weep it is still spotless.
A prize for Rick 130, who has almost certainly nailed the problem. I do about 2 a month with this problem, the gasket commonly splits at number 1 and 4 inlet ports, causing oil to run down the block side and drip off the LH stiffener bracket and bellhousing.
It is an easy job, but be careful when re tightening the 2 long inlet manifold bolts, as they can pull the threads from the head if you get aggressive enough.

I'd better check mine then hey.
Any other warning signs?
Thanks fellas I am pretty sure its the manifold gasket will check it next week when i have a few days off thanks for the help
