    Question Advise on Cruise Control

    G'day All

Shortly, I'll be driving from Hobart to Townsville and in my never ending quest to stuff in every electronic gadget known to mankind and given I'm a lazy bugger i was thinking of fitting a cruise control.

Can anyone recommend a quality aftermarket kit that I can fit and will work effectively with the TDi 300 in my manual Defender?

    Thanks in advance

    I have a Command 200 in my 3.9.
Works well, but more importantly you can easily get parts, and they do not propose to change the most damage prone ones ( the solonoid pack) in the near future.

    Cruise Control

    Gee Thanx Andy

Not quite the gadget I wanted. I'm actually a bit surprised the 98 Defender didn't come with a hand throttle. My 90 Model GQ Patrol did.

There is one you can buy . Fits in the petrol choke hole on the right hand side of the steering wheel (you will find there is a rubber gromet there because the hole is already there for it). By the ingition switch. Used to put them in our challenge trucks for winching. It is a sort of same thing as the choke cable but a bit better

VDO do a good one for around $600 to $700 and are one of only a few that are compatible for Diesel engines as the cheaper ones rely on vacuum to measure acceleration.

You can get Diesel kits for the cheaper ones but I dont know if they work or not as Ive only delt with the VDO type.

Any GOOD auto elec should be able to supply one for you and just make sure you fit a clutch sensor switch as well as the brake one.

I dont have one but I know a few people who have and they recon they are the most accurate as they dont accelerate heavily and decel is steady.

Er your diesel has a vacuum pump to make ze vacuum for de brakes.
The vacuum is only used to activate the diaphragm of the servo which changes the accelerator setting.
The speed signal is taken from the driveshaft or on cars with electronic speedos the VSS ( vehicle speed sensor)
