Driving lights - Cibie or Narva?

I'm looking for a set not-so-expensive driving lights for the D1.

SuperCrap has Cibie Airport 55W driving lights on special for $110 a pair (less than 1/2 price) until tomorrow http://cibie.valeoservice.com/html/u...842D24DB080506

Alternatively, Narva have a pair of Maxim 150 Long Range Driving Lamps for $120 http://www.narva.com.au/ForwardLighting_7.html

Do I buy Cibie (part of Valeo! ) or Narva?

If the Cibie were 100w I'd buy them. I'm only looking 'cos the Hella FF1000 http://www.hella.com/produktion/Hell...000/FF1000.jsp currently on the Disco need new mounting brackets and Hella quoted $100 each for the brackets!

I have not owned the Cibie 55 lights but have always been a fan of their products. A friend had some Cibie 55's on his commodore and they were quite good from memory. I had thought about that Cibie deal from Supercheap but I think the lights use H2 globes and cannot be converted to HID.
I have never thought much of Narva driving lights. I dont know anyone who has bought a set and kept them for long.

To my knowledge, Narva are not manufacturers, but sales people. Their stuff is made mostly in low cost countries by all & sundry and packaged under the Narva brand. Draw what conclusions you may from that. There are some USA brands that specifically cater to the truck and off-road and industrial markets and are worth looking at. Try www.grote.com for their Perlux range and www.unityusa.com for spotlights, fog lights, driving lights, work lights.

I had a pair of cibie Super Oscars for a few years, found them to be a great light. Although the reflector started to peel off after a bit of corrosion set in.

you can get replacement reflectors......but they will cost you about $65 each......
or you can get the complete light for the same price second hand.......i see the ads every now and then for these
in 4wd monthly i think it is.......

and ron........have you had a look at the night vision lights......?
they are a cheap brand.......but work just as good as some of the more expensive ones.....if not better.........

Hi Ron, I wouldn’t touch anything from Narva. Their quality leaves much to be desired.

Why not get the Cibie’s and fit Philips Crystal Vision globes.

They won’t burn the reflectors, draw the same as 55w globes but give out the equivalent of 110w.

They are the one’s I had on mine when you came up and had the night run to Ormeau.

    Cheers

Nite Stalker are marketed by Hansa (the Cibie importer) and are made in Taiwan Cibie copies for Hansa.

FWIW, in the Sept. '05 issue of 4x4 Aust. the Narva Ultima 175 'blue' came second overall and 'best value' when tested in the lab against IPF 900XS (trick GE globes and 1st overall. The mag did state they performed much better than any IPF light from the past. I believe the globes are exxy ) Lightforce 170 came third, then in no particular order, Hella Rallye 1000, (the free form reflectors didn't work as well as the marketing suggest) Hella 160 and KC 69.
Interestingly Cibie and Bosch declined to participate.

have to say that after numerous Roo strikes on the Patrol the Super Oscars are still fine, as are the Nite Stalkers on the front of the 'fender.

The old Super Oscars that been through a few ARC's and a Repco Round Oz on the front of a mates rally Commodore then a few years on the front of my old Commodore and then F100 finally started to lose the chrome off the reflector.
