If it's the same as down here you are out of luck. Lost mine one time and ended up having to buy a new pipe. Worst thing was just as I finished changing out the hose I found the missing bleed screw.
Hi All,
I had some work done on the coolant system a few weeks ago and I've been keeping an eye on the coolant level. Found it to be slowly dropping over a period of a week and topped it up thinking it was most likely a small air pocket working it's way out. Couldn't see any leaks.
Today I checked it again and found it had dropped again and there was a small amount of coolant around the screw in bleed plug on the large hose at the top. Looking closer it appear not to be screwed in all the way and was sitting up a little. Gently attemping to tighten it, I have found it has sheared off inside with the top part and a about 3mm of the thread just sitting on top.
Does any one know where I can get a replacement over the weekend? Are they a "standard" item that might be picked up at repco or some other car parts place?
I'm hoping to use a small drill bit and smallest size ezyout to remove the broken part when I've got a replacement. Anyone think of an alternative?
Place I got it serviced closed about 1 hour before I found it.... Grrrr.

Hi Guys,
A friend of mine did the same..
He ended up using an M5 bolt from memory with a rubber washer, cut a slit in the thread down one side to mimick the bleed screw & has never looked back. BTW u cant get the bleed screw by itself, u have to buy the whole hose.
I recall reading that the bleed screw can be bought from BMW dealers.

Hmm, thanks for the replies. I didn't think of the slit in the thread, but it makes sense being a bleeder. That will explain the small leak. The top part without the slit is the bit that has sheared off. I'm on the search for an M5 bolt.....
I rang Repco Yesterday. His answer was "you want a what for where..." He'd never heard of a radiator hose with a screw in bleed point.

Well, haven't I had fun today.Do you think I could get the remains of the bleeder out. Nope....
Ended up the whole part where the bleed screw goes into snapped off and fell into the radiator hose. Bugger![]()
Removed the hose and after a long search (and I do mean long!!!) found all missing bits. Didn't want them floating about and getting stuck some place expensive. I've patched the hole with some rubber and a bolt until I can get the hose replaced. Looks a bit ugly but probably stronger than the original Not many places open on a Sunday for Landrover parts....
Refilled wit coolant, bled and chaecked for leaks. Had the engine running for about 45 minutes then took it for a 30 minute drive. Looking ok at the moment. If it was going to crap it's self would it have done it before now? I've only played with SIII engines. They are much easier to work on!
Interesting to note that the bit that fell into the hose appears rather brittle. Car has done 122,000 Km. Might be another good reason to change the hoses.

To All,
I purchased a replacement plastic bleed screw for my TD5 from Graeme Cooper today for approx $11.
It is identified as P/N PYP10008L and is branded MG Rover.
Thought you guys should know.

The landy dealer in the gong broke mine then told me I needed to get a whole new hose, could not drive the car back to sydney so they did the job. The Frank from ATV land rover told they can replace it.
That happened to the screw on the bottom hose of my Td5, just snapped off with hardly any effort being exerted on it. About 50K on it at the time.
I went through all my old nuts and bolts down the shed and hurray, found 2 galvanised screws with flat washer parts under the heads. Same size same thread and no leaks.
As far as I know they're still in it as I sold it some time after. Not the first time my old collections have come in handy.
Why do they insist on crap plastic on cooling systems? LR are not the only ones to do this of course as I had a Falcon years ago and had a "T" piece break when I accidently leant on it. Better plastic on the retic. system in my garden.
Alan.
Broke mine off yesterday, luckily I had a spare from an old hose.
You could also fit the new coolant level warning kit that has been advertised on here. It fits into the bleed screw hole.
