    Fuel filter change......now it's fluffy!

    Gday lads,

After a recent maiden voyage in the green 110 (3.5 V8) I noticed it was loosing power on long climbs, seemed to be fuel starvation. It ran fine in all other situations, it just lost power (slightly, on and off) on long hill climbs.

I immediately thought of the fuel filter.

So I changed it. It was caked in gunge etc. Now it no longer losses power on hill climbs, and it accelerates better than it did before which is great....

BUT......when it idles there is now a fair bit of vibration in the car and if you stand at the end of the exhaust it sounds fluffy!

The timing was set up with the old filter in place a few weeks back. Is it possible that it needs to be reset now that the fuel is flowing freely??

    Is it a mixture issue??

    Any help appreciated.
    Cheers

    Mick

    It's conceivable.

If there was that much crud in the filter, then there could also be some crud in the carby jets. Something cruddy could also have been dislodged when you disconnected the old filter. I know for playing with bike engines that mucky jets can make some really strange things happen.

Normally LOOSING power is a good thing!

    Sorry, I had to...

yep that certainly can cause the problem..

you'll have set it all up to run properly with a lower fuel availability and now its getting too much...

do yourself a favor run a half dose of fuel cleaner through the thing, then change the filter again before you retune it..

If i had a dollar for every time ID done a tune up only to have it come back a week later running like crap cause its picked up more junk from the lines/tank....

    Id have $7...

Its usualy one of those things that will keep me up at night

"I know ive just done the tune up and its running ok, but did i clean all the lines and flush the tank, should I have, is it going to come back to bite me, do I ring him and tell him to keep an eye on the fuel filter, not let the tank get too empty. Do i just tell him to bring it back and tell him I for got to change the fuel filter? Do i advise him to change it just to deal with the tank crud?"
