    Td5 elec starting problem

    Hi guys
been having this problem with my D2 Td5.
on cold mornings put key in ignition turn on and all lights on dash illuminate except glow light and the car won't start, so turn off & on several times until it does come on & hey presto it starts, and no more problems for the rest of the day. some times auto goes into limp mode, turn off & restart car & all it back to normal , get it checked on computer no faults show up.
    items i have checked:
    replaced batteries in keys
    replaced battery in vehicle
    already had injector harness replaced
found bared wire in loom at front of head
    replaced relay for glow plugs
    had ignition switch checked

it's driving me up the wall, very quickly i'm losing my faith in L/R
has any one else had similiar probs
PLEASE HELP before i do something stupid (sell it , or BURN it )

might want to check all the main earth connections, especially the main earth for the battery

Then check the glow plug timer and relay

plus check to see if you have oil in the ecu plug under the seat

Ooooops sorry D2, the ecu is in the engine bay, not under the seat

    Hi Mate
    Mine does it!!!!
Before you burn it get underneath, find the starter motor, unplug the trigger wire on the solenoid(at the bottom of the starter motor) and clean the connection, replug and all is fixed.
    Works for me!!!!
If you have had the leaky fuel pressure reg or have it but havent realised its generally the cause, the diesel attracts dirt makes a bad connection.
Last time mine did it was after being on the beach and before that it was muddy, the first time was the diesel leak that trickles down the starter motor!!!!.
    GOODLUCK,ITS A TD5 THING!!!!

Wont Crank or Cranks but wont start?

If it wasnt cranking I would deffinatly say sol. trigger wire but If it doesnt start because of no glow then it has to be in the glow circuit.

If not cranking do what Landyandy said and if you want to go 1 step further, fit a start relay.

If it cranks but no start,

1.check voltage at glow plug wire.
2.check continuity from engine to body to battery.
3.if no/low voltage at glow plug trace back to timer relay.
4.main glow plug relay (if it has one)
    5.prey or buy a 300 TDI D1

check the earths to the ECU and the powerfeed to the ECU...

Also check that the fuel pump is starting every time, if its not go the fuel pump relay as you first port of call.

thats Assuming that Im reading it correctly as it cranks but doenst fire...
