    Winch question

I have just aquired a 8000lb PTO Thomas winch to suit the LT95 in my RR. The big problem ATM is that the driveshaft from the PTO unit wont fit to the front due to the Exhaust etc from tthe 4BD1 being in the way. It is impossible to move the exhaust outside the chassis rail like in the 110, and there doesn't seem to be a solution other than go for a HYdraulic drive off the LT95 and adapt a Hyd motor to the winch. Has anyone here done this? I'd really like to use this winch as it has a 50m wire capacity and has been fully recoed and it cost VERY little.

Sounds like you have a County take off, not a Rangie one. The Rangie one - looking from the rear forward- takes off about 8 o'clock and the County one about 7 oclock. There were some pics not too long ago I'll do a search.

Are you serious? I'm tempted if I can't get this one to fit neatly. BTW, it has all new drive shaft unis and bearings etc etc etc. And as for the LT 95, I'll have to get freight organised as with new workshop etc it is going to be impossible for me to leave here for a while....

Is it definetely a RR PTO?? Not land rover?

I might make a trip to TAS one day, I'm guessing your not in a hurry for the gearbox , but don't know where the hell I'd fit an LT95 AND a highmount on my 1200x1800 tray

Apparently It came off a 79 RR, but I will investigate to make sure it is what it is supposed to be. The guy I got it off is pretty straight, but I'll check. I wasn't aware that there were 110 and RR differences until just now!!!
And you will be quite welcome down here, there is a bit of slop around at present too....
Actually my only concern is the weight of it. I already have 360kg of 4BD1 in the front....

Mmmmm, My wife isn't full time at the moment and I have some leave, But alas, I can't make it till after July, as my old boy is heading of to the canning on the 3rd of june and won't be back for 2 months, so I have to stay and look after the place

Maybe we could arrange a bit of a guided tour a bed for a night, and share a few beers in exchange for transport

Sounds like a good plan Matt, don't forget I also have a big workshop with lots of hoists etc if you would like to also play with your RR while you are here...Beats working on the ground, The least I could do if you are offering to come over with a bit of baggage. Oh, And we would obviously be doing some driving somewhere, the only problem could be somewhere to sleep, as we are living in the loungeroom of a 2 bed Villa, and the 2 kids have a room each...We'll sort something out though. I have plenty of LR associates, some who live in the next street!!! JC
