We have a Deefer 110 in the workshop now with a dead fuel pump. I think I have a good D2 pump floating around somewhere, I will see if the pump body will swap over.

    A tale of woe indeed........

Dave has asked for a fuel pump, which I have had one in a box stored in the shed for 3 years - it was buggered but, as we all do - I kept it for a rainy day.

It was kindly offered to Dave to have a bit of a play with.

Comes Sunday, and I'm thinking I had best package the thing ready to post...

No a lesson learnt.....check the damned box before making offers - the box is empty.

Much swearing etc.. the wife informs me No 2 son was mucking around in the shed around Christmas - so's I phone No 2 son - in Canada.

    He says,

Oh yeah Dad one of me mates' Dad was taking off around Aust and he asked me if my Dad had any Land Rover spares to lend - so I knew you weren't using that thing so I gave it to him.

Thanks Son - why did you leave the box on the shelf

    Wait for it........

"Well Dad I thought you might use the box sometime so I wrapped it in one of Mum's towels and gave it to him in that."

It's a bl**dy cardboard box - not to mention Mum's bathroom towel and the trouble I'm in if she finds that out! I'd be in trouble because it was Land Rover thing!

    More yet....

No 2 Son tells me the blokes name so today I'm trying to catch this codger - finally do. Yep, Dad's now over in South Australia - the young bloke gives me Dad's mobile.

    Phone his Dad.......

"Yeah mate, thanks for that but we were in caravan park in Perth and a bloke in a Discovery was having trouble so I gave it to him - but he reckoned it was stuffed and binned his and that one when he got a new one. I gotta tell you he wasn't happy with it."

He wasn't happy - well excuse me. I'm so sorry MY fuel pump didn't work!

I'd like to know how he knew it didn't work because I don't think it would have fitted in any case - the pump was from a Defender and this bloke was driving a Disco.

Dave, sorry to st*ff you around.

All Land Rover Owners hoping for an easy solution to the cost of fuel pumps - well what can I say.

The bloke I spoke did offer fifty bucks - can't really take it though can I.

    Result?

Loss of face, no fifty bucks, potential carry-on if she finds out about the bath towel and No 2 Son's words......

Gee Dad, it was only fuel pump - the way your Land Rover's eat parts you'll need another soon anyway.

It looks like the Defender pump is OK, there was a wiring issue at the relay. So no go on the comparison. Sorry.

thats ok We had a similar thing at work today.. I had to replace the lift pump on an izusu...

go to relevlent parts bin, grab front box.. empty... wtf?

    grab second box.... Empty....

grab final box..... EMPTY... NOT HAPPY....

grab the bloke who was packing the ISO container of parts for ex "dickthediggersround" and hes put 3 in there... whyd he take em out of the box?

"they wouldnt fit in the hidey hole i had for em so i took em out....."

I see, where is this hidy hole? I kinda need one for a vehicle I have to have going today to go on the ex...

"bin b2" (right up the front of the container welll and truely buried by now)

whyd you put em in that deep?

"we're not expecting to need them..."

the conversation deteriorated from that point on about lots of different things he could go and do to himself... And what I was going to make him do if I couldnt get a pump within about 2 hours

this all started at about lunchtime which left me with 4 hours to find a pump, fit it, bleed it, start it and return it to the parent unit who wanted it by 1500 so they could pack it....

Howd they find out the lift pump was stuffed?

    Ran it out of fuel...

    Didnt tell me that...

10 points to the person who answers this correctly...

Did they refuel it before giving it to me?
