I made a bypass for the contaminated main harness... havent fitted it yet - used an old main harness from a dealer (free, oil contaminated) for the plugs, and 7-core trailer wiring. I'd post pics if I knew how!![]()
it's not so much as the flushing but the sealing of the harness to stop the oil getting in the first place and to seal the old harness up you would have to clean it well to get the sealer to seal easerier to seal a new harness but there is nothing to stop you from giving it a go but remember to give the sealer time to cure properly etc

Hi all, back again.
Had the oil/harness problem before xmas. Cleaned the harness & replaced it, leaving out the orange seal at the ECU to stop it from pooling. Recently noticed the oil has made it back and is starting to drip. The old girl has started to run a bit rough when using 25-50% throttle - intermitantly (sort of like dirty/lack of fuel, dirty plugs), had all new filters in December and haven't been anywhere dusty/muddy, could it be a simptom of the oil, or should I be looking further?
did you replace the harness in the head? (the one under the rocker cover?) if not you need to do this.. otherwise it will keep making it down the main harness...
Thanks
Steve
No, I didn't put a new harness in (time/money), thats why I left the ECU seal out, as I new the oil would be back, but it didn't run rough last time so I am wondering if it is something else? (I will be putting a new injector harness in this time)
Rough running is definately a possible symptom of this fault.
Yes the injector harness can be cleaned and reused. I have mine as a spare on board. The main thing using ait again is the o rings will need to be replaced with high quality units. Usually for time and convenience buy a new injector harness and use the one taken out as a spare.

Steve I am in perth as well and just replaced my harness as a precautionary measure. I know a few people who have had to replace the entire computer because of oil ingress.
IT cost me about $240 all up with a new tappet cover gasket. They needed to replace the tappet cover gasket because someone had used silicone to hold it down previously. usualy you dont need to replace it.
I got the guys from British parts and service to do the job for me they are very reasonable priced, let you watch what there doing and do a very good job.
I used to service the disco myself but at the rates they charge its easier to get them to do the job I just watch and check everything else like uni joints
etc.
They are in Star st welspool.
Once you have replaced the harness with the updated part the problem is over the new harness is oil proof ( shouild have been a re-call any other manufacturer).
You can easily tell if your harness is seaping oil just undo the plug into the computer and see if it is oily.
The part they replace is inside the tappet cover and is connected to each injector and is covered in oil.

Can you blokes tell me what year range are we talking about?
I presume that LR fixed the problem at some stage or do they still produce cars with this problem?
TD5 and it would not be a Land Rover if it did not have factory problems![]()
