Turbo 700 is one
Just wondering what options there are fo gearboxes behind the isuzu deisels as I have been offered a turbo d but would like to keep the ZF that I have just put in my rangie. Is there an auto available for these motors or an adaptor for the ZF's, cheers
Thomas
Turbo 700 is one
Thomas,
I have a complete adapter etc I had made for mine, but my honest opinion is don't do it. It should be a good thing, in fact mine was the perfect tourer and off road vehicle, but after 3 failures due to what I believe was excessive torsional vibrations of the 4BD1, I gave up and fitted a LT95. The worst thing is it goes really well, these engines need an auto. But it wont last.
If you REALLY want to do it, it is still for sale, but consider yourself warned.
I still think an Allison auto would be a goer, but attaching it etc and adapting the LT230 would be a bit of a chore.

Hi Thomas,
KLR at penrith may be able to help answer your question , they put R380's with a lt85 bell housing and adaptor plate to the Isuzu, some will say that the R380 is to week for the Isuzu but I have heard people who have had it
done havn't had any problems

They have had good results with the fiollowing auto boxes: GM 200R4, 700R4, 4L60, 4L60E
Thanks guys, I am sort of thinking that this is not the way to go, I like the sound of a v8 too much. Justinc I understand what you are saying I have a mate with a Stage 3? I think thats what they call them (series 3 with a defender style grill) with a non turbo Isuzu and its so noisy and the vibrations are shocking. It was just an option i was considering exploring. Ive spent so much time and effort on getting the auto in and working it would be shame to get rid of it.

I don't actually have it. My mate who is a car transport truck driver says his mate who he works with in melbourne who has a 2 door with an izusu turbo d. He was going to get it for me as he drowned my EFI ECU and was thinking I could put the isuzu in instead of him getting me a new ECU. I am thinking of buying and fixing it up and selling it though.

an auto behind the Isuzu 3.9
Who are you Satan?
not a bad thing if you dont let it idle for long (or raise the idle to over 1000rpm)
the torque pulses at low loaded rpms will eat the TC and the drive plate in no time flat.
its a truck engine it needs a tough as nuts box behind it with the biggest toughest bearings you can squeeze into it behind it.

A few years ago one of the armored truck companies were running a 4BD1T with an auto behind it. I did try to find out who supplied it and I think it was Allison. Also there is a big C6 auto I think which they run behind the 6BD1 in F100 - 250's etc. 6BD1 to F series was very popular for towing goose neck equipment.
