yes you can, its just a case of swapping the hinging from memory..
Gday all, we are wondering if it is possible to change the double door(upper & lower) on "BB" SIII SWB for a single side opening door, like seen on the fenders, i have seen a couple of these doors for sale on Ebay before. I have added a pic of what we have and what we would like to have.

If you've benefited from one or more of my posts please remember, your taxes paid for my skill sets, I'm just trying to make sure you get your monies worth.
If you think you're in front on the deal, pay it forwards.
Yes you can. You will need the door plus the hinges. I think you will have to remove the drivers side peg from the tailgate latch aswell. First thing i did with my first series was to swap the one peice door for the two piece. Complete opposite of yours. Found the drop down tailgate much more usefull.
As Blknight says - Yes, and as Mick-Kelly says - Why?
The rear doors are interchangeable from Series 2 up to current Defender, had only two hinges I think up to end of Series production although probably a lot of early ones have had the third hinge added.
You need the door, hinges, lock and striker plate and door check mechanism complete, although you can probably improvise something for that. Hinges changed through the years and the latest are the best. Locks also changed, and again the latest are probably the best. Series doors originally carried the spare so low that the tow bar cannot be used with the spare mounted on the door. You may also want to find a rear step. Series step is different from the 90/110 and Defender, and I don't think they are interchangeable because of the cross member differences.
In my experience the rear doors were rarely if ever fitted to Series Landrovers sold here except for station wagons. Having owned swb Series Landrovers, my view is that the drop down tailgate is more useful than the door - lots of things I've had to carry that needed it open. Also makes driving with the roof off feasible.

Yes ...you can....but why?........you will lose your picnic table/ parts cleaning bench. If you need to have it opened when driving....you will lose all your load...compared to only half your load with the drop down

During my time at Leyland Truck and bus, Hardtops and Truck Cabs came from PMC with tailgates, and Station Wagons with the one piece swinging door, We routinely changed one for the other at customer request and an appropriate charge. Is one style better than the other? Depends on what you want to use the vehicle for. Tailgates can be better if you want to carry long items, and the top half can be opened for ventilation if sleeping in the back. These two uses are among the reasons why surfers preferred Holden panel vans with tailgates over Falcons with barn doors. The swinging door makes it easier to load and unload items from the rear section as you dont have to lean over a tailgate.

I'm with Brian on this one. Reaching over the tailgate is a PITA compared to standing in the doorway. BUT when using a "ute" configuration (no roof/ canvas top/ute roof) you need the tailgate to keep things in, and in some cases the split door on a van body (or wagon) may have the same advantage.
Series doors have 2 hinges. I think you should be able to retain the hardware for the tailgate if you use a Series door. The County/Defender doors have three hinges and you'd need to lose the right hand latch for the tailgate. County locks are better than Series locks, but not enough that I'd worry about it. Can't comment on Defender locks.

G there are some good arguments for and against but the minister for war & financesays she wants the one door especially if we get seats fitted in the rear.
