Glow Plugs, Injectors and other boring stuff

In the past month i have found Grommet wont start on cold days, i checked to see if there was 12v on the glow plugs and yep there was, so lucky for me i had some glow plugs laying around from my old 200tdi engine i had. 300tdi and 200tdi are the same glow plugs.
So i replaced them today, easy job, but you have to pull the AC comp off to get to Cyl 1 Glow plug.

While i was there, i pulled the injectors out and replaced the copper washers and then coated the injectors in copper grease to stop them sticking in the future...Dirt gets stuck in the head between the injector and the head. coating them in grease or in my case Copper Grease it stops the dirt getting in and the copper grease can handle 1000 deg C.

Then i did the tappets and replaced the tappet cover Gasket and 3 bolt seals.

I also fixed the oil pressure switch problem to find another problem..... i broke the switch. so i will get a new one soon..

And i did other boring maintenance stuff...... boring ehh...

not really, its all fun and games...

BTW for stopping the injectors getting stuck next time theyre out try this...

coat the injector body in a heavy oil near the top where it protrudes from the head, get it a bit below the level of the head as well

Install the injector, make sure its ports are blocked with a plug and use black sealastic on the space around the injector. the sealastic will stick to the head and not the injector keeping the whole think squeeky clean.

Don't worry about the glow plugs, it's probably something else. 300TDis start quite nicely without the glow plugs even in the British climate!
