    95bhp at the wheels woohoo

    just had the defender run up on a dyno to confirm the tweak

    95bhp
    16psi boost
    670 exhaust gas temp

    the pump had been adjust twice by a workshop (pre and post simpson desert trip). i have read a heap of threads and taken in all the advice, i pulled things off to have a look, moved things a little bit but without a decent test hill close i took the easy option and threw it on the dyno. the good part is i know now exactly where it is at. yeh yeh i know a few of you have mention no need for a dyno but i'm happy with piece of mind that i have some measured data

    the guy that ran it up on the dyno has a 4.2 tubo non intercooled nissian thats putting out 115bhp

    the workshop is having a dyno shootout on saturday with a 4wd category...................i don't think i will be entering

    i have a digital readout and a bent thermocouple so that it sits in the exhaust stream

    $220 to dyno tune

    i thnk i have educated them a bit as they were quite suprised that from standard the 300tdi runs around 15psi boost, even this morning they were wanting to fit some boost dump/blow off valve, they rang me back and said i was spot on about the boost, apparantly they need to fit them to the older toyotas and nissians

    i think i paid somewhere between $200 and $300 at MR, that included an injector clean and tappet adjustment, i did have to take it back for a de-tune ofter the simpson desert trip

    a mate of mine upto kilcoy i think where the local machanic has a dyno and charges $50 an hour 'from memory' for as many run ups as you like, my mate was making his adjustment in between in run

    Dyno

    that sounds excellent Kevin;

    95 bhp at the wheels , and Pyrometers reads 670 which I've been told is still acceptable. you said Boost test showed 16 psi of boost . have you tampered with the wastegating of the Turbo etc ?

    nope as i don't know how to adjust, i have not been able to find a thread on how to do it and thought no use asking as everybody seems to recommend around the 15psi mark

    I get 14-15 psi on my Boost gauge , I thought you may have slightly tweeked yours , do a search on this site for Waste gate adjustment or even post something up , plenty of very knowledgeable L/R mechannics here that are willing to show you how, I haven't tampered with mine as I didn't see the need to , I'll be putting a bigger/better intercooller on mine 300tdi before pushing more out of the Turbo. cheers

    I run 17 psi boost at the inlet manifold on my 300tdi, from research I have done this appears to be a safe maximum but some people have run 20psi,they are braver than me. I found the easiest way to adjust the boost was to install a bleed v/v in the waste gate actuator pipe, then adjust it up slowly untill you get the boost you want. The bleed v/v's can be bought from ant speed shop all the young blokes use them to adjust their Jap turbo wizzbangs, cost about $80-100.
