    12v Car Computer

I bought a 12v car computer a little while ago and finally got around to mounting it. It is small enough to mount in the back of the Disco glove box.
It is hooked up to a touchscreen monitor on the dashboard.
Best thing about this computer is that it automatically turns itself on when I start the car, so there is no need to press the power button on the computer. It also turns itself off after a delayed period if I turn off the car or I can manually turn it off via a switch on the dash.
It is basically a P4 computer running windowsXP and Ozi Explorer.

More info on the computer Adam. I've been toying with the idea of one of these for a while now.

No idea about the specs. It works...thats about as technical as I get when it comes to computers.

BUT if you get on the D2 site and ask the question then Tim Loveday can answer for you as he built it.

    Hey Adam
What size is the screen? - does it impede vision at all??

Ive now got a disco to mount mine in - just got to sort out the 12v power supply.

    Cheers
    Dave.

    Here's a few thoughts.

Rig it with Wireless Network then connect to you home PC and dump all your MP3 on to the car's PC

Run a connection to the OBDII port and do realtime capture of vehicle engine data, display this graphically whilst driving

Get wireless internet and have internet radio and TV on demand

I bet there's other things besides OziExplorer that you can do!

This is what I'm gunna copy - made by JSP on this forum: http://rangerovers.net/forum/viewtopic.php't=5069

I saw it in Adelaide last month - really very nicely done.

I've bought the new dash centre section to carve up, I have the PC and the GPS mouse - now to get the touch screen.

No does not impede vision. You still see the front of the bonnet over the top of the screen,

Yes, that is the other thing it will be used for. I am not a huge stereo man (being half deaf and all) but I thought I would by a cheap new stereo with an aux out at the back so I could plug the computer directly to the stereo. Unfortunatley it all ended up too hard/expensive. I could not get any plug adaptors to plug the Landrover wiring to a new stereo and then you have to buy an additional device to still have the steering wheel controls work. SO I will continue using my FM transmitter to play MP3's on the standard stereo.
