    On my one it's bolted to the chassis rail above the rear OS wheel.
    Remove the wheel to get to it.

    Once you get it out, you can blow it back with some low pressure air or even your mouth if you are keen.

    It would be a good opportunity to test your pump flow to this point if you shove some hose over the supply pipe.

    I am more for a pump problem.
    If there was so much crap in the filter the thing would not run flat out at first, then on moderate throttle etc etc.
    They are filled with paper like a dunny roll.
    For a sudden No-go It sounds like a dead pump. Did you hear the pump go for 10secs clearly every time you turned on?

    SO, I put in 20 litres of fuel and let it prime (as in when you turn the key you can hear the fuel pump engaging), the pump sounds okay, as per normal.
    Could a blocked filter cause the pump to go mammaries skywards one wonders, or do they have a self reset trip embedded in them?

    No doubt we'll find out soon.

    I think this is one where you cannot assume that it is fuel at all.
    remember initially it was supposed to be an empty tank but wasn't.
    I would check spark, etc etc.
    I cannot see a car suddenly not starting because of a blocked filter, as the theory it was caused by crap in the tank is now defunct.

    How long had the vacuum to the fuel pressure reg been off? This would cause it to be lean if my logic is correct. Maybe cold morning, lean mixture,old plugs, leads,dizzy cap, rotor , no start, flood.
    I have found that sometimes its best to replace badly flooded plugs.

    Haven't done what Ladas said as yet, but that's next up.

    More to the point, it did a few hundred kays on Sunday to Tuesday evening on new spark plugs, was parked overnight and on Wednesday morning, this problem came out of nowhere...

    Hmmmmmmm........

    Suggestions will be greatly appreciated and when the cavalry arrives, we'll do Ladas trick, keep you posted.

    What else did you replace with the spark plugs?

    OEM rotor?

    i'll tip the eletronics that tell it when to spark being off, and dodgy spark leads not forgetting the one from the coil...

    do your spark checks first even if its only getting a little fuel it should be trying to fire.

    The fuel filter is just in front of the rear drivers side wheel beside the chassis rail on the out side. You can see it quite easily if you look from the front of the rear wheel towards the passenger side front wheel

    Agree that Dave might be on the right track...

    Had a problem with our series 1. No spark caused by bad connections on the controller thingy just in front of the battery. I pulled all the wires off (one at a time), put them back, saw that magic spark at the coil, and it started (& has stayed troublefree since).

    maybe the fuel problem is a furphy? Anyway, only takes a few seconds to see whether there's a spark or not. If it sparks and doesn't run then likely it's fuel :-)
