    New D2 V8 exhaust

Had the new exhaust fitted to the D2 today. Nothing too fancy. Extractors, sports cats, high flow muffler all on a 2.5" single system.
I told them it was their decision whether they put a resonator on the back. They did. They said although now it might be a bit too quiet, they tested it out without the resonator and said it would drive you insane on long trips so they added a nice flat one which sits up high out of the way.

Should have got some bling SS extractors....but they all go black in the end anyway. I was amazed that the extractors actually seem to take up less room in the engine bay than the original manifold

Another bonus of the extractors is that they do not drop down as low as the original Y pipe. They sit up nice and high above the cross member.

The also added a bling tailpipe for free!

I also asked them to tuck the rear of the exhaust up nice and high. When I cut away the rear guard last week and with the addition of the rear bumper I made, it really showed how low the factory exhaust hangs. But you can see the comparisson of before and after.....and yes the exhaust is on in the 2nd pic.

Thats a bit of difference Adam,
Looks good tucked away up in spaces of the D2.
Did the Cats get replaced with new items, from what it looks like its the connection of the pipes to the rear single pipe the Cat is fitted. Is this correct or did u just not bother with them?
    Hope to hear it soon..
    Cheers. P

Yes, I ended up getting new sports cats (whatever they are??).

They are mounted just to the left of the pic and are a ot smaller than the LR CAT.

So, if anyone is after som original D2 Cat's that have only done 40,000km then make me an offer, otherwise they go on ebay.

    Hi Adam,
Where did you get the exhaust from. I was looking at performance exhaust in Ringwood, as mine will need replacing soon and I was thinking of getting some Pacemaker extractors at the same time.

    thanks,
    Ian

Exhaust was done at Ace Exhaust in Croydon. I think it was $1150 in total whereas Performance exhaust in Ringwood quoted me $1800.
I am sure performance exhaust would use much better extractors, but these one seem to be ok.

It's sounds good. Definately a better note but probably not as loud as I would have liked. I drive it everyday and do al our long distance touring in it so I think if it was any louder it would have been annoying.

having recently chopped the centre muffler out, (leaving the resonator in place) if you want LOTS of noise,, better start up further,,(cats and extractors)
can only just hear it inside at highway speeds,,

Make sure you have the heat shields on the engine mounts or they will fail in short order.

LR came out with that mod.

    PROBLEM: ENGINENOISE/VIBRATION-ENGINEMOUNTINGDEGRADATION
Reports of excessive engine noise or vibration.
Either engine mounting may show signs of degradation.
CAUSE: Heat damage caused by high temperature due to close proximity of exhaust manifolds.
ACTION: To prevent re-occurrence of the above, a modification is required to the engine mountings. Obtain engine mounting kit, part number KLO100000. Kit comprises, engine mounting KKB103120 and heatshield ANR6610.

Replace engine mounting and fit new heatshield. Position heat shield on mounting to provide maximum protection from manifold heat, i.e. so that deepest heatshield section is adjacent to heat source.
I'd already done it to my RR classic which had extractors.

I've read that RR cast iron manifolds are actually very good (and they are quieter).
