how about a pic of the underside showing the adaptor ring that should be on the bottom to locate it onto the trolly jack and the measurements so that they can be duplicated?

As I thought everyones trolley jack would be different - didn't see the point.

On mine there are just 4 holes to suit the u bolt brackets (actually they are not U but square topped/bottomed)

............so the bottom has 4 holes that suit the U bolts, that suit the top plate on your trolley jack.

Fair enough so how about some measurements so we can make them up ourselves?

The information is terrific ..... but I'm going to be the game bastard or stupid bastard..... who cares.

Blknight. the segments on basic tools... torque wrench, slide hammer, circlip tools ........whatever ... would be appreciated.

I recall changing the gearbox oil many moons ago and finding I needed a "special" tool to do so.....God that could've created problems down the track - and such a basic tool.

So what about a rundown on the "basic" tools before proceeding any further. I reckon (and hoping) there are plenty of Land Rover owners wanting this infor but a little shy to ask.

    Thanks in advance.

fair enough too... but ATM Im just posting them up as I use em at work (well since i got the idea to do this anyway...

Torque wrenches and the like Sort of crossed my mind but went the way of nahhh....

my intent was to deal with the more advanced tools like the compound pressure gauge which can be used to deal with lots of different things and the DTI and mag base that will let you measure up stuff that you would normally need a mechanic to do as they should have the gear to do it....

Hows this... Below is a list off the top of my head of what I have at work/home theres a shed load more but some probably have snuck in below radar as something I put my hands on so often I havent even thought about it (like say a shifter) or sometjhing i havent touched since i started this. If theres something there that someone wants to know about they post with 3 tools from the list or if its not on there add it in (if you can change the font colour so its stands out) and in the order they appear I'll try to do it. other than that I'll just plod along.

Now Im not a moderator or an admin but (if it happens I'll ask them to delete it) but I dont want this to be a flame contest, everyone had to learn somewhere and heres as good a place as any so any jibs along the lines of "what you had to ask what a XXX is for or what tool you need to undo one of those" Im not interested in hearing, keep it to yourselves.

of course co-contributors like Ladas trolly jack-lt230 adaptorp plate are more than welcom. (top effort by the way Ladas)

    • DTI+magnetic base (done
    • Verniers- easy accurate measurments (pending
    • Micrometers- more accurate measurements(pending
    • combustion gas detector- head gasket fault diagnosis(not unless asked
    • compound pressure gauges- fuel pressure, manifold pressure/vac(pending
    • pullers- removing seals,pullys\harmonic balancers (pending
    • flexigauge-measuring internal items clerances (not unless asked
    • torque angle gauge- used with a torque wrench (pending
    • torque wrenches- tightening bolts(tomorrow
    • multimeters-measuring electricery (not unless asked theres autoelecs in here that can do it more justice
    • clamp meters- meaureing lots of electrickery(as for multimeters
    • impact drivers- undoing stuck screws (pending
    • slide hammers-removing shafts\pins (pending
    • pinch bars- small levers with funny shapes (wasnt going to
    • seal pullers- similar to pinch bars(wasnt going to
    • Easy outs -get that snapped bolt out(didnt think of it
    • helicoils-fix stripped threads (wasnt going to
    • ratchet ringies- spanners (wasnt going to
    • Socket sets including torque, impact bi/single hex and all attachements -
    • tightening/loosening bolts/fixtures (wasnt going to
    • propane torch/hot air gun - heating stuff (wasnt going to
    • screw drivers - tightening/loosening screws (wasnt going to
    • vaccume bleeder - bleeds brakes/clutches and fuel systems (pending
    • compression testers- test combustion chamber compression levels (pending
    • stethescope- listening to things (wasnt going to
    • drills - making holes (wasnt going to
    • die grinder- fine detail grinding/polishing (wasnt going to.

alternatively if you have a problem item that you think might need a specialist tool be it a torqz bit fitting or an adjustable main metering jet in a carby post a pic and ask about it.

That sounds good - and greatly appreciated.
Like you said, everyone has to start learning somewhere and being able to get the knowledge/experience of yourself and other blokes on this forum is priceless.
