    300Tdi brake servo

On a Automatic '96 disco. It's hissing (softly), and a new one is $500! Any other way out? Brakes are fine otherwise, but I'm getting tired of the reaction I get when asked about it, and I respond "don't worry about it - it's just the brakes."

Where is the hissing coming from ? if it is leaking it usually means the diaphram has split, not sure about disco ones but i had a leak in my old rangies servo so i pulled it apart, cleaned and re assembled it and its still good after 13 years.

It's coming from where the pedal attaches. It doesn't look servicable, and the manual indicates it is not servicable, but I thought I would ask. Do they commonly go bad? Is a second hand unit an option?
