    Accoustic cover, yes or no?

    G'day all,
Been working too hard of late now i'm self employed!!! It's been interesting adjusting to working out the back of a Disco after previously using a Falcon ute!!
During all the travel i've been doing of late in the Disco, particularly on hot days like today (42deg), i've been thinking it's time to flush and change my coolant, also remove and clean the rad and oil cooler.

Would removing the accoustic cover and leaving it off help cool the engine more by improving airflow around the engine?

I've been seeing heaps of poor souls on the side of the road with bonnets up sending steam signals to the RACV and don't want to join them if i can help it. I dont fancy the thought of cooking a TD5 engine

    Cheers, Phill

it doesnt make all that much difference as the heat is still trapped by the engine bay...

I got rid of mine while servicing and left it off but then Mines a deefer and I consider the acoustic coverings of the td5 to be about 2kg of crap that if offloaded lets me carry a couple more beers before i go overmass.....

Ok in reality I took it off cause I like to hear my engines that way when they start to whipser that something might be going wrong I can pick it up and investigate before they chuck a tantrum and try to excrete important parts out the side of the block.

Thanks mate, have to agree with your point about listening to the engine. I almost sub conciously analise any noise i hear thats out of the ordinary.

Also, i hate the fact that when you open the bonnet all you see is plastic.

Would it be worth installing vents to help improve airflow out of the engine bay? Was thinking long the lines of something similar to the "gills" on the side of the new Rangies? Or would the result not be worth the effort?

The cover is actually a decorative plaque to hang in the garage. Mine has been in there for 2 years now.

Ive got mine off the Disco,no louder at all.
Was looking for an oil leak that solved itself(ACE) stopped leaking all by itself,BIZZARE.Left it off as the cover hides too many EVILS!!!!!
