Hi Adrian,
Most likely the belt, especially in this weather.
Try a QUICK squirt of CRC and see if the noise disappears momentarily.

See you on Tues.....
Hey Everyone i was driving the Defender Td5 today and i noticed a Bloody annoying Squeek noise. any ideas ?? i think it might be the Fan Belt. how often do you have to change them (fan belts) ?? or it might be the Plastic cover over the motor cause its missing the drivers side Bolt that holds it on there. apparently its a common thing to happen. if anybody has any ideas what the squeek might be plz share
Thanks
Regards Adrian

Ok thanks Justin ill try the CRC just on the belt edges ?? would you be able on Tuesday to weld that lil bolt mount back on if i bring it down ?? its the Drivers side for the plastic cover on the motor

No probs, the MIG is waiting, (It has had a workout this week, just did a rear twin shock conversion to a D2 on Thursday.)
You can spray it directly on the belt, but only a tiny bit, just to tell you if it is the belt or not. DO NOT use those anti slip belt grip sprays, they will make it squeal like a stuck pick for ever more.

Ok thanks very much Justin ill try it out.
Regards Adrian
talcum powder works to diagnose a noisy belt.......
and it wont affect the rubber like the sprays can.........
Correct Tony,( I usually use a candle, but I didn't want to encourage young Adrian to put his little pinkies close to a rotating fan belt at this stage of his life, he may need them later!)
I only lightly squirt it, and it will instantly change the note of the squeal if it is the belt.
Just reading over some previouse posts the Td5 engine life discuss. what would i be looking at if the noise was more of a squeal than a squeek ?? still the belt ?? TREX said in the engine life discuss Post that he replaced his belt and his squeal changed note and he thinks its his manifold. how can i check the manifold ?? how could it be making the Squeal ??
Stik of dry lube does the trick
