no you cant come up through the spring hanger. the reinforcing plate is in the way.

you cant chisel it as it will elongate the holes and if you have the front end rust problem you will just drive it back into the wedge which if your not after a rego is fine but Im tipping its also going to elongate the ally mount for the bar.

If you dont want to hurt the ally then the oxy is out the heat will have nowhere to go and will be absorbed by the most heat friendly metal which will be the ally.


you might get away with the burr in a dremel to cut the bolts but as I had a 100mm long 3mm burr bit from another job I used that.

dont use the stone burs the metal edge cutting burrs will be your best bet...

Theres one last trick that might work if you have a good set of drill bits....

knock the shanks and nuts down as far as you can then center mark the shanks (or the nuts) and with a 3 or 4mm drill drill through the shank (or into the nut and shank) then once through rotate the shank 90 degrees and go again. This should weaken the shank to the point where if you drive into it with a fine point wedging drift it should expand and snap off the end of the shank and nut. Then grab it with pliers to bend the edges back towards the center so you can lift the remnants of the shank into the chassis where it will fall out of harms way.


other than that without it here next to my box of butchery Im stuck for more ideas.

i suppose.......he could also drill out the bolt from where the head has been cut off.......if a drill can fit up in there......

simply drill the whole bolt out......using a drill bit the same diameter as the bolt.......

or one a bit thinner....and then chiselling the nut off.......

(i assume you mean down, through the whole length of the bolt and not sideways through it..
