Is it possible that the rattle is a dead tensioner, as the belts don't usually just let go? One can only hope, although if it is the tensioner then the replacement belt would also come off fairly quickly.
check the harmonic ballancer! little bro had a very nasty noise emmenating from the enging area! turned out to be a dead ballancer. me and scouse were swapping phone calls about it for a few days. had me mifed to say the least.

    it was on a 99 TD5 disco.

    cheers phil

You'll find the serpentine belt diagram on the RAVE CD in the workshop manual, Section 12 - ENGINE - V8i, REPAIR, page 1.

I keep a copy in the glove box - just in case.

    Thanks for this GrahamH,

I've just had a look and it doesn't seem to be there. It seems the D1 RAVE is a bit more comprehensive than the D2 one.

That'll teach you Slunnie for upgrading to a less comprehensive vehicle.

Rovernaut Clearly I had a lapse when I was buying.

Thanks for this Graeme. I've snipped a pic out for easy finding later on.

Bit of a drama you had. I hope it's something easy & fixable.
