    Fuel system air leak?

It seems I have an air leak in the fuel system on my 3.9 county. Drove the tracks near Lancelin on the weekend and on monday arvo coming home from work the pump got some air in it when I was halfway home. Managed to get it restarted and got home - the corrugations seem to have loosened the bolt holding the CAV filter together. Did that up but the same thing happened today.

Plan to buy a new filter and replace ALL the seals on the assembly - but can anyone else suggest anywhere else I should check?

I presume you are talking about the CAV filter on the rear chassis - (originally only a water separator, but often with a filter added). That is the only place I have had air get into the system, but you should check the short bit of hose joining the nylon fuel line to the pipe from the fuel pump, about six inches from the pump. This could have developed a split - last time it happened to me it was the return line and I got fuel everywhere before I noticed it was leaking! If it had been the suction line it would have got air in.

check the pickup at the tank (fill to the top of the filler neck) also check the lines to the cav filter, the line from the filter to the pump as mentioned AND dont forget the strainer on the bottom of the lift pump(assuming its a diesel)

99.9% of mechanics dont know about/forget/ignore that thinking that its after the filter (water seperator in reality) so it must be fine. IF you get a case of diesel snot this is where it will congregate first. ITs a pain to get to but worth a yearly inspection/clean/replace

If the pumps inner seal is shot you will draw air from the crank case and push some diesel into the sump. check that ASAP.
