Put a GE Electric motor in it and then fill the back up with batteries.....
It will be just like a Rover.... Unreliable and expensive...............![]()
And a bull bar and winch puts the weight even further forward.....
An Isuzu 3.9 is about the same as a SBC which is about 50kg more than a Rover V8. AFAIK, 110's with the Isuzu have reinforced chassis mounts....
I have a stroked 3.5 (now a 4.3) in my 110. It goes well enough (it has RR transfer gears to raise the gearing which it still pulls easily). Even so, I often wish it was a 350 Chev. They are reliable, as cheap as a Holden to rebuild, very compact (for the capacity) and in stock form have almost double the power and torque of a 3.5 with a HUGE range of cheap performance parts available.
Using a carbed 350, the chev conversion can be done for about $2000 plus the engine. This is less than what the stroker kit is going to cost you and then you will still need to do a full rebuild on the 3.5 which will be more than a good used 350. $2000 includes adaptor kit, engine mounts, headers, clutch, radiator mods and a manual flywheel. To do it justice you would probably also need 0.996 transfer gears to reduce the crusing revs.
3.9s are the same or worse than 4.0 and 4.6.
It is the bore increase that is the problem, leaving too little material around the bore/sleeve if not accurately cast.
My 3.9 is OK so far at 135K, but I am paranoid about engine temp.

I think we can all agree that the little 3.5 is the sweetest and most reliable of the engines avail for a RR or 110, but it could do with some more torque and power etc. I am always amazed at the performance of such a little engine
, but it just can't cut it when it comes to pulling a heavy load or grunting up long hills. A great pity this.

Is there much difference in the total engine lengths with adapters and fans when using Chevs or Holdens in comparison to the Rover V8?

a 3lt 6cyl nissan motor is 65kg heavier than a 3.5 V8 rover..great little motors but underpowered. stroke it is a waste of $ IMO, Chev V8 is the cheaper option then what does everyone do gas the bugger???
Depend also on what you want power for mud churning or touring towing.. I know when (if) my TDi packs it I'm going a turbo Chev Diesel V8 (because I can)..
If you want to stay Rover a p76 4.4 lt is a good motor and interchangble with most rover bits using manifold spacers, options are endless but always $$
When My 3.5lt died in my Rangie I looked at a heap of options and went a 3.9lt replacement (built to Drag spec by my brotherinlaw to be used in a modded Nissan 240Z) so I was pleased as I saved $$$ back then..cool seeing a V8 being to out rev a tacho without valve bouncing, al prof balanced and blueprinted,mmm it sounded nice.
