Why on earth would you want to go more than 40 kph if the surface is that rutted ?
I need some technical assistance! I am the proud owner of my first LandRover,a D3 V6SE, 2000 km's and went sand driving to break her in a bit.
The problem I found was that the suspension would deflate to standard ride height at speeds above 40 k's. This was very annoying as I was following a land cruiser and patrol who had to keep slowing down to let me catch up as the D3 kept scraping on the centre of the ruts I had to use.
Is there any way of overiding or reprogramming the compuer to allow me to drive faster over this sort of ground?
Any advice would be appreciated

Hello bushbasher and welcome aboard!
Firstly, it shouldn't have dropped until 50kph. The warning sounds at 40, but the auto drop doesn't happen 'till 50 (pedantic, I know, but if it's dropping at 40 then there's a problem.
Secondly, you can buy a kit from Matzker in Germany for about $3,000; but the word is that it can cause too much stress on other components.
If the sand was that good that you could maintain over 50kph in the ruts, why use them in the first place??
I appreciate that the standard 255/60R18 tyres arer hard to get flotation with. Before I put on the 245/70R17 STT's, I had to go down to 10psi on occasion.
Just take it easy and enjoy the scenery!![]()
It was only sand
Where abouts are you??
had to use existing ruts as route through dunes were limited. It's great having all the bells and whistles but when a 25year old Land cruiser leaves you for dead it gets you wondering
I agree with you about getting up on top of the sand is difficult with the standard tires, had to let tires down to 14 psi!.
Having fun in the sun in Kalbarri W.A What about you ?
Hi bushbasher and welcome aboard.
I have have the same D3 and as for the automatic lowering, it’s a safety feature to reduce the chances of rolling.
As for the yota’s showing you up, let them have their one and only chance because in just about every other aspect, the D3 stock standard will run rings around them.
There are some many other features that make these a great vehicle, to have one feature as simple as this causing you to worry, don’t, you will soon have fun in other areas.
Cheers.
The wranglers are hopeless in the sand and can slow your momentum significantly.
I'm in Esperance. We've got our share of dunes like that. The ruts are usually quite deep due to dimwits in lesser 4WD. There's a local philospohy that somehow you're tougher if you can go as far as you can before engaging 4WD and at up to 50psi. All this does is cut up the dunes and tracks.
Like drivesafe said, there are very few cases where any LC will outdo a D3.
Welcome to the world of permagrin!![]()
Thanks for the replies. What I think you are all saying is slow down and enjoy the ride.
I had encouraging comments from everyone I encountered in the dunes saying it was good to see one used for it's intended purpose. Already compiling a wish list for when funds allow.
