D3 OEM snorkel problem
I have a Land Rover original equipment snorkel on my 2007 D3. Recently I discovered that the tube that runs through the inner guard and connects the original air intake to the air cleaner is porous. Also the elbow where this tube joins the air cleaner has holes drilled in it. It makes no sense to me to have a raised snorkel to prevent water entering the engine if the original connecting tube is not watertight.
Does anyone know why Land Rover has this design and if replacing them with watertight fittings will cause a problem?

I asked that question once ; apparently it is not officially a snorkel ( like a Safari ) but a "Raised Air Intake" which lets LR out of it having to be watertight.
Can't see the point of having something that lets in water myself but anyway ....

The raised air intake simply attaches to the existing air intake and doesn't replace any parts other than the intake grill.
The holes are in the elbow to reduce resonance, evidently. Nothing that can't be fixed with a bit of silicon.
You can also use that door seal stuff to seal between the snorkel itself and the guard.
At the end of the day, the oem snorkel will protect the car unless you intend entering water that is higher than the bonnet
. A simple bow wave should not lead to water ingress.
