My series 1 V8i Disco has done over 256000, is this record??
Mind you, a couple of years back one of the cylinders failed and have to have it repaired, cam shaft etc was changed, so maybe this will increase the longevity.
Another thing or two, where can I find a heater core in the Traralgon area for the car and who can help me figure out water entering and soaking/flooding the rubber sound proofing in the back as it's rusting the back of the car out? (I don't river cross)

I have a mate with a 88 3.5 Range Rover who got 510K from the engine, with only head gaskets on one occasion. He has now fitted a 3.9.
His ZF also lasted about 390K.

Although my 2000 TD5 Disco has got a relatively modest 125K on it, my regular driver is a 1989 Nissan Skyline. Current mileage is 386K and not a single problem with the engine except for hydraulic lifters which were replaced because they tapped. No head/ head gasket problems. Doesn't use oil and doesn't blow smoke.
You can only ask in bewilderment how Nissan could have made such a long lasting 3 litre petrol engine in the mid 1980's, yet made a comparable dog in the 3 litre diesel in the Patrol in the late 90's.
However, I still do wonder about the long term longevity of the TD5 and whether some small fuel savings now will pale into insignificance at the first sign of major mechanical problems.
for me then as I'm hoping to get a fewe more years out of her yet! Thanks for the tip LOKKA I'll see what he's got.
My 98 defenders got 363000klm's.Engines alright but tranny's alittle cranky. Pat
interested.
