I got the nozzles on my injectors replaced at about 300k km. Cost about $300 from memory - didn't make much difference though. Was done by Diesel Australia.

Unless they say that they DEFINITELY need replacing, I would just get the pressures reset and leave it at that.

The injectors are easy to remove, may need to use a large spanner as a lever to give them some slight assistance if they are stuck.

Dave's suggestions are good for doing a quick and dirty (oily) check yourself. It is quite easy to do, and will tell you if something is really out. I did it in canada on an isuzu county that blew a head gasket (fortunately after it had made it to panama and back). Then a neighbour brought over a hand-tester so I could check the pressures properly.

I suspect one of mine may be leaky, always get a puff of smoke on start up.... Which one though! Might have to give the cardboard a go

A puff of smoke on startup is normal - the injectors deliver more fuel at startup.

thanks all again for the advice.

I will attempt to do a field test. However, getting anyone else interested in helping with car stuff while the kids are asleep is not that easy.

Otherwise just send them off for a clean, test and service if necessary.
