    Constant 2WD DII

Lying under the car to check (and top up with over a litre) the auto fluid, when I noticed one of the unis in the DC joint was cracked (which would explain the vibration!). Pulled the propshaft out, engaged the CDL, and pulled the wire off the housing so we still have ABS and TC. Hey presto, drives like a new one with no vibration.

My question is, how long is it safe/advisable to drive in "2WD"? Obviously I will get it fixed, but would like to know where on the priority list it should go.

Also, can I buy new unis and fit them into the propshft/DC joint myself, or will it need to go to a drive shaft shop?

On the possitive side, with the propshaft out, I found the leaking fuel pressure reg!

    That is a positive?

As far as self repair, it depends on how handy you are. We get ours overhauled and balanced through Repco.

I would put it reasonably high up the priority list.

I have found it a little fiddly, but if you take your time, an keep everything clean it's very do-able DIY.

If the UJ you are changing out doesn't have a grease nipple - replace it with one that has.

For pressing out and pressing in - I use the right size of sockets that just fit in the yoke and a good benchtop vice......and I just take my time and it's quite easy.
