I put a Din66 size Ca/Ca in the empty SLS compressor tray away from the turbo heat. Its only small but dual-purpose - 620CCA & 68AH.
Looking for a second battery to put in my D2, and wonder what I should get size-wise. The battery recommended for the tray in my D2 was an N66 type - anyone know their dimensions or what will fit the tray? I'm using it for emergency starts and low current draw appliances, so i want a sort of dual purpose battery, not a purely deep cycle one. Looking at dry cell ones - are they worth it?

I have just installed a battery in the rear of the D2. I moved the jack into the space behind the storage bin access through the vent . I removed the jack to accomidate the switch ETC and ran a large wire to the storage bin
I installed a 100AMp HR Gel cell in the storage area. The battery has a cca of 800 and is capable of deep cycle. It is the same size as a normal n70 but way heavy. I put the bin back in place and you would not know it was there. Saves all the hassel of trying to put one up the front near the left hand turbo. I am in toowoomba if you want a look

I have installed a 60 liter weaco in the back as well . I carry 100 litres of fuel and 80 litres of water plus all the other camping gear so you will not see much . SO if you can tell mke how to put images on the site I will show you.

To attach pics goto 'Post Reply' then scan down to 'Additional Options' then to 'Manage Attachments'
From there you have the option to either attach from your PC or from the internet - just follow the prompts, finishing with the 'upload' button.

I went through this exercise a few weeks ago I ended up using a Optima Blue Top Spiral battery http://www.optimabatteries.com/publi...fo/marine.html
I mounted it on its side on the left hand side of the chassis where there is a plate on the side of the chassis.
1 big metal guard and some rubber and all is well. While the Blue Top doesn't have enormous reserve capacity it does receive charge very quickly enabling recovery times to be minimised. Over all it works very well.
Well.. all food for thought. I've already got the tray etc in place near the turbo, so I really just need to know the battery maximum height if anyone knows?

I have the same bracket setup. I have a 75 amp deep cycle battery from Repco which has been there hapily for 3.5 years now. Use a heavy duty relay setup for the isolator which has the zener diode built into it to trigger it. It also has a wire that you can hook up to a switch inside to trigger it to start the landy if the main goes flat.
My $150 pirana isolator failed due to water getting into it.
Keep an eye on the water level for the two cells closest to the turbo on long trips and top up when neccessary. Also the wreckers sell starter cable for next to nothing. Makes good connecting cable from the main battery/relay to auxillary. The 75 amp will run my two fridges overnight when travelling.
