I recently fitted Dobinson springs and shocks. They seem good on road - no off road yet. Cost under $800. Shocks were much bigger diameter than previous shocks. Fitted myself over a weekend.

Well Ive been back to get this mess sorted and still no Joy
Now Im at the stage where Im (Just quietly) very annoyed
Ive lost $2000 in wages (2 days off)
Ive got no result from the efforts of supposed specialist 4WD shop
and when I rang the supplier of the springs to supposed specialist 4WD shop they say that if spring is still same height free length out of the car it must be something else ( What a Load of $***)
When I picked up car today they told me they had fitted new fronts .
Then when at home I have a look at front springs and low and behold they had only replaced the drivers side front
when the D2 still had its standard springs it was dead level all round
I for one will (NEVER) use these springs again
Supplier even told me that they make the springs with a stiffer rating on the drivers side to compensate for drivers weight ( YEH RIGHT !!!!)
Surely I expect a smidgeon of settling 5 to 10mm all round
FR 750mm FL 755mm (Thats Fine ) But RR 720mm LR 735mm (Thats not right)
Could anyone with a D2 tell me what there rear heights are and Springs they are running with a 2" lift please as I will at least have an indication as to what I should have at the rear

    Cheers Ken

P.S. Sorry for long winded story

They are in the RRC slightly higher on the driver side.

And you wondered why I couldn't make my mind up on what to buy with all the different stories/opinions/advice/crap I'd been getting from some of the shops.

Bilsteins will be here tomorrow, and I'm still not sure what springs I want to put with them, so I may end up doing dampers only first and then I'll know the exact effect the springs will add when I do them later..

You seem to have had an ever worse time, 'cos you've paid money out, lost income, and still not got what you wanted or paid for...my exact fear!

    Hope you get it sorted.

    Ken, are your springs "Royal"

Take a look at the rears and grab a part number.... It should also say DS or PS on the rears....

Also, After a Spring upgrade the vehicle WILL sit down to the left on level ground, this is to compensate for driver etc...

And the rears will also sit lower than the front because the rear wheel opening is physically lower on the vehicle than the front wheel arch.

I take it you are measureing from the hub centres to the gaurd lip vertically above?? Any gaurd dents/irregularitues that could effect the measurements? What are the standard measurements?
What do the bump stops measure?

Lovells 50mm lift springs are rated for each corner to compensate for different loadings, e.g. front right has the battery and driver to hold up, so each spring is suited to each corner and labelled so, I've had mine for 18 months and no sagging or problems, $320/set of 4, Regards Frank.

Les Richmond springs are advocated on the forum as they have the best rates/lengths off the shelf. Most aftermarket springs are too stiff IMO, e.g. Kings, Lovells.

The best springs available are made by Eibach and Hyperco.
Eibach used to have Landy listings, Hyperco would have to be custom. Both are $$$$$ but will not sag/take a set or do anything weird, have the best free length to block/coil bound height and the best life.
Eibach have a factory outlet in Sydney, Hyperco are imported by North Terrace Tyres in Adelaide.
Most all top level and factory race/rally/off road cars worldwide use one or the other brand.

Yes.... And they throw them out after each rally

Tempered / Heat treated steel WILL sag... regardless of who makes it...

    It has to....
