Hid

When I got mine, I stupidly ordered two kits of H1 bulbs, when I actually needed H3's... I had to get creative with a grinder, superglue and sikaflex to fit them to my narva spotties!!
You can see here what it looked like before I covered it all over with the sikaflex. You can remove a considerable amount of material from the bases before getting to the glass.

Yes, but I looked at the product at a 4wd show and they were the only ones who had what I wanted after weeks of searching the internet. They dont make any claims about the HID products they sell giving more power or better economy!!

I presume with the H4 ones, the low beam goes off when you switch to high beam? If so, and supposing you're running on high beam for a while, how effective is low beam when you have to switch back to it, and it has to arc back up again?

I can notice no lag. When they are warm they seem to be bright instantly, not that there is much of a delay anyway. When first switched on the HID globes start with a high voltage which is very bright then they settle to a constant brightness over a couple of seconds. Switching between high and low they seem to have a constant brightness instantly when hot.

ps, with the sliding type where the globe moves position slightly to give high and low the beam is constantly on and does not need to go off and on to give high and low.

Yeah, that was the type I had heard of (As well as others that had a Halogen for one of the beams) so I wondered with yours as I prefer the "no moving parts way" if it worked well.

I'd love to find someone come along and tell me the $150 sets on eBay are great for the H3 spotlights though.... ;)

I bought the 139 dollar set off e-bay in the H3 an put them into my IPF's.

I can't make any differance inbetween mine and my mates ARB $1600 dollar jobbies. Except that my ballast's are thinner and smaller. Go figure?
I think that mine are actually brighter, more than likely that's the actual spotties and reflectors though.

Excellent - can you point me to the seller you used please, as there are a few different ones kicking around (Or a link to your actual lamps if the listing is still visible?)

Once I've sorted the spots, I'll decide just how much I can justify spending on the headlights!

I put some 45w HID's into my LF XGT's. They give off a fantastic amount of light. Only downside is that when i have to switch them off, i seriously feel like i'm in the dark.

I'm resurrecting this thread to get some tech advice :

Are all the Rectangular IPF Spotties the same size?

I got 2 pairs with my Defender, but I don't know what model they are. I can't see any markings, except 'made in Japan' and 'Halogen.'

I'm thinking of converting them to HID,


so, can all models of Rectangular IPFs be converted to HID?

and, which bulb / kit type do I require?

There doesn't seem to be too much room between the back of the bulb & the case.
