OK I have owned my 03 TD5 for just on a month now and have clocked up some k's. I make excuses for almost any situation just to get in and have a drive, normally, highway travel. It travels so well at 90, 100, 110 and 115kms but what is the most efficient speed? I know at 90km/h it will be more efficient then at 115kms but is it significant?
Cheers

130's rule
Hi Catch-22,
coming down the inland route from cairns to sydney, I tried several different speeds. I found the following on a td5 d2 auto using cruise control. Each time i filled the tank to the brim, i even rocked it a few times to get any air bubbles out.
At 100km/h i got 10.1 litres per 100km
At 110km/h i got 12.1 litres per 100km.
My mum drove it down to melbourne and back recently. On the way back she filled up straight after getting off the tassie ferry and then was straight onto the freeway. sat on 115 all the way and had to fill up at pheasants nest, just south of sydney. Not sure exact figures there.
I find around town in sydney i get at least 100km more out of the tank about 770km if i use bp, compared to shell/mobil. I try to drive conservatively and back off as soon as i see the lights change ahead etc.

my best is sitting in the shed cleaning itcheaper on fuel that way!
but really i went from a V8 disco to my TD5 90 so anything under 14/100 is a plus! atmo im getting 10/100, best of 9.5 sitting on 10k over with roof racks. on the highway, trip to and from QLD
and pretty close to 11/100 in sydney traffic.
i cant drive at 90 in a 100 zone, to many toyotas pass meand i cant have that.
cheers phil
thats another good point! i too try and only use BP fuel!100km more out of the tank about 770km if i use bp, compared to shell/mobil
was using shell, bp and caltex, but found the others gave me readings all over the place??
cheers phil
90kph real(off gps) routinely sees me get abot 9.5/100 without the trailer on with the normal gear and 2 passangers.

OK thanks Aaron and all...some real life testing is really what I wanted to hear/read.
I only ever use BP in the Landy, wifes car and my track car.
I would NEVER use Shell...
Cheers
Without sounding technical, i get 105 km's for every line on the fuel gauge on open roads, that drops to about 75 if i tow something.
8 lines on the gauge = 840 ks per tank.
I know its rough but its what i do..![]()
Pretty much the same. I have noticed though that it absolutly loves burbling along at 80km hour when on undulating but well formed dirt roads - it is like it purrs, and forgets to drink.
With the big windows down, sound of the diesel ticking over with the odd bit of turbo noise coming in as well, air ambient temp outside in the high 20's / low 30's and miles of of the Gaffa in front of your windscreen and a big blue sky from horizon to horizon....it doesn't get much better
the simple life.
well just done the first half tank in the 4BD1 110 and did 330km...80l tank..therefore 8.25lt/100km...that was highway and city driving....
impressed....
