Thread: TD5 - is it normal to have oily residue in post air filter pipe?

If its the pipe between turbo and intercooler then its normal to have a little oil residue, check one of the ends that fits onto the ic as it may need a flush out.

no the oil is not normal unless you have the replacement K&N filter.

on the side of the dust, if its the original filter.... neglecting the airfilter at the service will cause this... and its to do with the filter itself. Im pedantic about my filter and carry spares but the cheap immitation ones have a hard plastic edge in black and do leak past a little bit

A proper filter has a pink or greeny silicon feeling edge on it and will seal properly. If you let the filter get too dirty as the suction on in increases it will flex and allow a little of the trapped crud through when it does if it is excessively clogged.

Have to disagree with Blinknight, nearly every one I have seen has some residue, between the filter and engine intake not excessive but there wether it be a diesel or petrol.

I havent seen it yet but then I only routinely service mine. most of the rovers Ive been servicing lately are the 3.9 isuzu and 2.25's

where the hell would the oil come from? its a dry filter element unless its been replaced with the K&N wet filter type which would easily acount for it.

Im might buy its water marking from when the filter passes water when its raining but thats all I can think off off of the top...

does the disco have any breather lines tapped into thebottom of the air box?

I paid around $40 for a TD5 disco filter a few weeks ago, there seems to be 2 different codings for TD5 filters, does the Defender have a different size?

the one I just put in to replace Markndebs dirt collector was a deefer item the filterboxes look identical as far as I can see and the filter fit perfectly....
