    Urgent, Help needed.

Hi guys, I'm in the process of stripping an R380 (type B according to the manual). I've hit a snag from the start. How in hell do you remove the rear main seal collar???? The manual says to use three special LR tols together to do the job. Surely there is a way to do it without these tools.
    Thanks in advance.

    P.S. Vehicle is a 1995 V8 disco.

In the absence of anyone else - this pic appeared in LR monthly (May 2007) in regards to a project vehicle.

    a) I haven't done this, so I can't comment on the setup

    b) the article did not refer to how to remove the seal collar, only that it was the jig ashcroft transmissions use to do it on a R380 from a TD5 defender (presumeably a type D)

a normal set of collar or ring pullers will do it if theyre the big buggers and you have plenty of pulling power availalble, failing that you need a hydraulic press with the right collar grabs....

The butcher says Die grinder with a 2mm burr and then love with the chisel and hammer to spread whats left and pry it out....

I have some other more advernturous methods to try but it depends on how much of the box you want to save for later use. (an NO im not talking HE or Det cord for a change)

pity I dont know where youre at... I have access to up to a 200t press and a fabrication guy who owes me a favor.

Thanks guys, I ground it most of the way off then used the "love, hammer & chisel" method for removal. It's all good.
