The fuel cooler on the TD5 is identified as a requirement to reduce the potential for the fuel to cook system componants.

Apparently the way the fuel system operates for the TD5, the fuel can get that close to boiling temp.

Have a feel of your fuel filter next summer,,, and that is with it cooled

I looked into building an external unit. Only hassle was the space for the connections. As money was tight I ended up having a custom one built that still fits within the original space. This time it won't leek and has slightly better oil flow.

Your best bet is to source the bit from the uk. The entire assembly is sold as one part. $1100 but you do get a new outer housing including the filter mounting points.
