"Warning: Counterfeit Genuine Brake Pads Are Now On The American Market

Land Rover Brand Protection in the UK has notified us that a large number of counterfeit brake pads have been released on the market. Some dealerships may have purchased them from the aftermarket and wholesale sources, plus it is likely that they have been sold over E-Bay and other web sites. The boxes look authentic but the pad compounds are budget aftermarket.

Brake pads affected are:
Range Rover 3 front and rear pads, '03-'05 using numbers SFC500050 and SFP000120:
Range Rover 2 front and rear pads, '95-'02, using numbers SFP100460 and SFP100470:
Range Rover Classic front '90-'95 and all rear pads, using numbers STC 9190 and STC9189:
Discovery 2 front and rear pads, '98-'04, using numbers SFP00210 and SFP100470:

The pads originated from a company called 'Atlantic Automotive' in the south of London - they were raided some weeks ago and Land Rover (and the police) found all sorts of couterfeiting stuff there.

We have found batches from reputable sources that match the codes, so we know they are in the US market. The boxes look absolutely authentic, but the security labels have numbers which can be identified by LRNA as counterfeit. The boxes do not come with hardware such as bolts or clips, as Genuine pads do, so that is one method you as the consumer can use to identify fakes.

A word of warning must follow: there are lots of folks on the web offering cheap Land Rover parts. Some are certainly suspect, and the buyer who is shopping strictly for the lowest price is the one most likely to get stung. But the chances are good that these fake pads are selling at full retail, and some folks naturally enough associate higher price with higher quality. We suspect that some major full-line import wholesalers have these, and they will be distributed through repair shops and websites who buy from them. They will not know or be able to tell you if the pads are fake, and the selling price will not be an indicator. The pads may be safe to use but you're definitely not getting what you paid for.

ive got elcheapo aftermarket pads in lurch......i know they wont last as long but im not too fussed.......


i went for price and am quite happy with my purchase.......and i know my rotors will last longer.......


but deception is another thing altogether.......
and i hate being lied to or ripped off........i dont do it to others.....so at least i can sleep at night.......
