    Air Bag Compatible Winch Bullbar

    Hi Guys,
Does anyone know the differrence between a air bag compatible bullbar and non air bag compatible bullbar? Is an air bag bullbar just as strong?
Does anyone know which is the best brand and where i could acquire one.
    Thanking you

An airbag compatable bar will mount to the chassis via crush cans so they compress in an accident and deploy the airbag/s correctly, cant really go past ARB. Cost is approx. $1600 for a D1 when i last checked.

What car do you drive - a Series 1 or Series 2?

The chassis rail spacing is the same but it may not marry up to the front of the car too well.

They are like rocking horse poo to find 2nd hand or the sellers ask too much, i ended up with an alloy bar with winch cradle but i really wanted an arb steel bar.

The ARB airbag compliant bull bar will fit either the Discovery 1 or 2.
The only mounting difference between the 2 models is, the D2 has a 3rd vertical mounting bolt.
As for the crush cans, the standard crush can are removed with the front bumper and new ones are fitted. The ARB crush cans seem to be a litter larger than the D1 crush cans.

I fitted an ARB ’99 model bull bar to my D1 ’96 last weekend. 3 things didn’t quite work.
    1. 3rd vertical mounting bolt, no holes in the D1 frame for it.
    2. Headlight washing water, different mounting holes (can be made to fit with filing)
    3. Indicators on the bull bar no connection point on the D1 (can rewire the normal indicator to attach the extra light)

    Q. The chassis rail spacing is the same but it may not marry up to the front of the car too well.
    A. Nope it married up just fine

    Cheers

If I remember correctly (not guaranteed), the D2 is both longer & wider than the D1. Therefore a retrofit to the D1 may be possible, but not the reverse.

Can anyone shed some light on this?
